Island Patent is located in southeastern New York State - in central  Suffolk County on Long Island - approximately 60 miles east of Manhattan and 50 miles from Montauk.  This portion of Long Island can be conveniently reached by car, ferry and airplane.
 

Please note that an appointment is always necessary when visiting Island Patent.  For security and confidentiality reasons, our office is not open to the general public on a walk-in basis.

By Car

From the west: Take the Long Island Expressway (LIE, I-495) eastbound from the Queens Midtown Tunnel, or the Throgs Neck Bridge or Whitestone Bridge in Queens.  Continue heading east on the LIE/495 to exit 62, which is Nicolls Road.  Exit at exit 62 onto the south service road, and move to the right.  Take the second exit for Nichols Road north (Route 97 north).  Continue north on Nicolls Road for several miles. Continue past the overpass for CR16, which is Portion Road.  Just after the overpass for Portion Road you will see an exit lane to the right along with a small sign - "Horse Block Place, County Offices".  Use the right lane to enter the exit lane on the right, and make the right turn onto Horse Block Place.  Continue on Horse Block Place for a short distance to the next traffic light, College Road.  Make a left onto College Road.  Continue on College Road for several traffic lights until you reach Waverly Avenue.  At the light for Waverly, make a right, followed with a QUICK left onto Rutgers Road.  We are just over the top of the hill,,, a grey ranch on the right hand side, #12.

   Please park on the up hill side of the property and use the stepping stone
   walkway to reach the entrance to Island Patent.

From the East: Take the Long Island Expressway (LIE, I-495) westbound.  Continue to Exit 62, which is Nicolls Road.  Exit onto the north service road.  Move to the right and take entrance onto Nicolls Road north (Route 97N).  Continue north for several miles. From the North Shore (via Nicolls Road, traveling south): Take the Nicolls Road south.  You will drive over the overpass for Middle Country Road (Rt 25), and shortly thereafter, will pass Suffolk County Community College (on the left side of the road).  Move to the right lane.  There will be two exits on the right coming up: a first/quick right and a second right with a much longer entry/exit lane.  Take the second right by moving into the long exit lane on the right, continuing around a bend to the right to a stop sign. At the stop sign, make a left onto Leeds Blvd (also known as Horseblock Road). At the next immediate traffic light, make a left onto Portion Road.  Stay in the left lane for a short distance, and at the next traffic light, make a left turn onto College Road.  Continue on College Road for about one mile until you reach the third traffic light, which should be Waverly Avenue.  At the light for Waverly, make a right, followed by a QUICK left onto Rutgers Road.  We are just over the top of the hill, on the right hand side, #12.

   Please park in the street on the up hill side of the property and use the
   stepping stone walkway to reach the entrance to Island Patent.

When taking a taxi-cab.  Simply indicate that Island Patent (12 Rutgers Road) is located very close to the rear entrance to Suffolk County Community College, in Selden, NY, just off of College Road.  Refer to above directions above "From the West", taking Nichols Road north by Car.

From Port Jefferson:  After departing from the ferry, take Route 25A (Main Street) north.  Continue going 'straight' as 25A turns into Route 112 (north).  Continue several miles on Route 112 until your reach Patchogue Mount Sinai Road (CR 83 South).  Make a right onto Patchogue Mount Sinai Road (83S).  Continue several miles, crossing over Middle Country Road.  At the first traffic light after Middle Country Road (Route 25), make a right onto Moony Pond Road.  Continue straight, and after serveral traffic lights, Moony Pond Road will turn into College Road.  Continue on College Road to Waverly Avenue (traffic light). Make a left onto Waverly, and a very quick left onto Rutgers Road.  Island Patent is located at 12 Rutgers Road, which is a grey ranch.  We are just over the top of the hill, on the right hand side of the road.
