A United States patent is granted to prevent
others from making, using, selling, and or importing your invention
in the U.S. for a fixed period of time. At present a utility
patent provides 20 years of protection, measured from the date
a patent application is filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark
Office (USPTO).
